Why choose this course?

This course is accredited by:
  • Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)
  • Chartered Institute of Highways and Transportation (CIHT)
  • Institute of Highway Engineers (IHE)
  • Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE)

The BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering course is intended to be your first step towards becoming a Chartered Civil Engineer and a practitioner in this exciting global industry. Civil engineering plays a vital, creative role in improving and protecting our surrounding environment, and carries local, national, and international implications.

When you study under the respected academics and experienced professionals at the University of Wolverhampton, you will gain a detailed understanding of the principles of civil engineering. The course encompasses the broad scope of disciplines within the field and includes research into solving realistic design problems in matters such as the construction of infrastructure projects.

Students at the School of Architecture and Built Environment will learn at our £120 million Springfield super-campus, which provides state-of-the-art equipment and facilities.

Civil Engineering graduates are characterised by their versatile, creative, and innovative approaches to engineering challenges. The training they receive at the University of Wolverhampton’s School of Architecture and Built Environment provides them with the opportunity to embark on significant related careers, or to continue their studies at Master’s or Doctorate level.

What happens on the course?

There is progressive development of a student’s ability to apply mathematics and analytical skills. At level one the focus is on the underlying principles, whereas at level three emphasis is placed on the solving of realistic design problems.   At level three all students have to undertake an individual research project which must involve the review of current literature, data collection as well as critical analysis, discussion and conclusion.

A graduate of the BEng. course will have qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment - the ability to exercise initiative, make decisions in complex situations (with often limited data) and preparation for lifelong learning.
