Once robe hire is open, we will email you to let you know. You will then need to visit the Ede & Ravenscroft website, select the University of Wolverhampton, choose your allocated ceremony, and complete your gown hire order.

The hood you require is determined by the award you are receiving. When ordering your academic dress through the Ede & Ravenscroft website, you will be asked to select your award from the list provided.

Please ensure you select the award that matches your qualification, as this will determine the correct hood for your ceremony.

You will collect your academic robes on the day of your ceremony from the 2nd Floor of the MC Building at City Campus.

We recommend arriving for robing 2 hours before your ceremony start time to allow plenty of time to collect and put on your robes before the ceremony.

The robing area will be clearly signposted on the day, so you can easily find where you need to go.

Yes. Our robing team will be available on the day to assist you with putting on your academic robes and hood correctly.

Please don’t worry if you are unsure how to wear them — our team will be on hand to help make sure you are ready for your ceremony.

Yes. All individuals are required to wear the academic gown, cap and hood for the ceremony.

We fully respect religious garments and head coverings. If wearing the academic cap would interfere with or conflict with your religious head covering or garment, you are not required to wear the cap.

Academic caps, gowns and hoods are sold together as a set. If you are not wearing the cap for religious reasons, you may simply carry the cap with you and wear the gown and hood for the ceremony. The cap can also be worn or carried for photographs where appropriate.

Gown returns are on main campus, ground floor or MB Building.

Ede & Ravenscroft are the University of Wolverhampton’s official academic dress suppliers, and we strongly recommend ordering your academic dress through them to ensure you receive the correct gown, hood and cap for your award.

If you choose to order your academic dress from a different supplier, please be aware that the gown and hood may differ in appearance from the University’s official academic dress. It is your responsibility to ensure that your gown and hood follow the University’s required styles and hood colours.

If you order from an alternative supplier and your academic dress is deemed to be incorrect or inappropriate for your award, you will not be permitted to cross the stage.
