Students Soar to New Heights in International Aerospace Competition
The University of Wolverhampton Aeronautics (UWA) team has achieved a standout result on the international stage, competing against teams from around the world at the IMechE UAS Challenge 2026, a prestigious competition focused on autonomous aerial vehicles.
Three Engineering students, Princedeep Jabbal, Dannyaal Manaf, and Ajaib Johal, working under the academic guidance of Dr Klaudio Bari, designed and built a fixed-wing aircraft from lightweight composite materials, capable of autonomous flight using advanced GPS navigation.
The team's hard work paid off in spectacular fashion: they recorded the fastest takeoff time out of 55 participating teams and successfully completed the competition's required waypoint flight mission.
This achievement marks the first time University of Wolverhampton students have reached such heights in the IMechE UAS Challenge since 2021, and reflects the strength and dedication of both the students and their academic supervisor.
Congratulations to Princedeep, Dannyaal, Ajaib, and Dr Bari on this fantastic achievement, a proud moment for the Faculty of Engineering and the wider University community.
