Reading is a joy for many of us. It is a way to discover new worlds, new ideas, and the wealth and breadth of human creativity. Yet reading for pleasure has been declining over the years. This year there is a national campaign to encourage more reading across all groups asking us to Go All In. Everyone is encouraged to read more about what brings them joy, whether that be novels, magazines, sports, arts, food, gaming, or anything else: If you are into it, then read about it.

In 2026 we want to help promote the joy of reading and all its benefits including those for wellbeing, helping reduce stress and improving focus. Throughout the year we will continue to champion our resources and enable you to explore your interests in reading.

Starting with our New Year, New Hobbies project, we have selected books on different skills, crafts, and sports which you might already enjoy, or have thought about trying for the first time. Pop into one of our libraires to see displays or browse our online collection.

All our libraries have a fiction section and if you are unsure about your next read keep an eye on our social media for some suggested reading goals. Take a look at our collections page for  different reading material from poetry to zines.

Happy reading.
