Sports therapy students offer £5 injury and rehabilitation clinics
Members of the public can access affordable sports injury treatment, rehabilitation and massage services at the University of Wolverhampton as its student-led Sports Therapy Clinics return for the new academic year.
The clinics, based within the University of Wolverhampton Health and Performance Centre on the Walsall Campus, will run throughout term time from Monday 2 November until Thursday 17 December and are open to staff, students and the wider community.
Delivered by BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Therapy students under the supervision of experienced sports therapy staff, the clinics provide assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and injury prevention support for a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions.
Appointments cost just £5 and last for one hour, making professional support accessible for anyone experiencing sports injuries, persistent aches and pains, mobility issues or general discomfort.
Patients attending the Sports Injury Clinic will receive a comprehensive consultation and physical assessment, followed by an individually tailored treatment and rehabilitation plan. Depending on individual needs, clients may receive manual therapy techniques, exercise-based rehabilitation, injury prevention advice and ongoing support aimed at helping them return to normal daily activities or sporting performance.
Alongside the injury clinic, a dedicated Sports Massage Clinic will be delivered by second-year students. The service is designed to support recovery following physical activity, ease muscle tension and help manage aches and pains associated with work, exercise and everyday life.
The clinics also provide valuable hands-on experience for students, enabling them to apply their academic learning in a real-world environment while supporting the health and wellbeing of the local community.
Marc McCool, Senior Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Therapy at the University of Wolverhampton, said:
"Our clinics provide an affordable opportunity for people to access professional support for sports injuries and musculoskeletal issues while also helping to train the next generation of sports therapists.
"Students gain invaluable practical experience working with real clients under close supervision, while members of the public receive personalised assessment, treatment and rehabilitation advice. It is a fantastic example of how the University supports both student learning and community wellbeing."
