Athlete Scholarship

The University of Wolverhampton Sport Scholarship Programme offers performance packages for elite athletes, aspiring coaches, match officials and leaders.

The University of Wolverhampton awards a number of scholarships to individual student-athletes who demonstrate aspirations to compete to the highest level within their sport. Our three Athlete Scholarship packages provide the student athletes with a dedicated performance team who work holistically to provide them with a well rounded performance services programme. Our scholarships ensure all successful applicants are able to compete at the highest level, whilst studying for a degree.

Athlete Scholar Packages and Criteria

Elite Athlete Scholarship 

The Elite Athlete Scholarship provides performance athletes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels with the opportunity to receive support aimed at helping each individual reach their potential. All scholarship packages (Gold, Silver, and Bronze) include a financial award along with a tailored range of support services. Scholarships are awarded on a case-by-case basis, and applicants must compete in a sport that is part of the BUCS, Olympics, Paralympics, or Commonwealth programs to be eligible.

  • Compete at a senior international standard in your sport (Gold Scholarship) 
  • Compete at a national standard in your sport (Silver Scholarship) 
  • Compete at a high regional standard in your sport (Bronze Scholarship)
  • Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate degree program at the University of Wolverhampton for the academic year 2026/2027.

  • Financial award - Gold £1000, Silver £500 or Bronze £250

WLV Sport Scholarships are awarded on a case by case basis and to be eligible, applicants must be competing in a sport included in either the  British University and Colleges Sport ,Olympics, Paralympics or Commonwealth programmes. 

To be eligible for an Athlete sport scholarship:

  •  Compete at a senior international standard in your sport (Gold Scholarship) -
  • Compete at a national standard in your sport (Silver Scholarship)
  • Compete at a high regional standard in your sport (Bronze Scholarship) 
  • Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate degree program at the University of Wolverhampton for the academic year 2026/2027.

The Scholarship Scheme is reviewed annually, although the Panel reserves the right to make changes and/or amendments at any time. The Panel also reserves the right to withdraw a Scholarship offer at any time.

The university scholarship scheme really benefitted me and allowed me to pursue both my degree and training full time. Through flexible study options and performance lifestyle support I could follow my dreams whilst also preparing for life after sport.
