Email for Staff and Students

Are you still using a text or phone call for Multifactor authentication (MFA)?

If you are still using a text or phone call as your MFA method, you need to change to the Microsoft Authenticator app as soon as possible. Microsoft are removing the use of a text or phone call as an authentication method and will soon start to prompt you when you sign in, to change to the Authenticator app.

Rather than wait for Microsoft to prod you about this while you are signing in, make this change as soon as you can.

Please follow this guidance to change over to the Authenticator app (you will need to log in).

For more information about MFA visit wlv.ac.uk/mfa

We use Microsoft 365 for our University email

The University provides Microsoft apps such as Outlook for email and calendar, Word for documents, OneDrive for storing and sharing files, and Teams for chat and video. Staff and students can use these on University devices and students can use them on their own PC or laptop.

From any device, simply log into https://office.com/apps with your University email address and password. Once logged in you will land on a screen that displays all the application icons. Simply select and open.

STUDENTS! If you would like to add Microsoft 365 to your PC or laptop, you can do this for up to 5 separate personal devices. Once logged into MS 365 with your University email, you will notice a tab at the top right of your window that says 'Install Apps'. Select the first option 'Microsoft 365 apps' and follow the on-screen steps to install and run.

If using a tablet or mobile phone

You can access all of the Microsoft 365 suite by installing the individual applications from your usual app store.

STAFF will need to enrol your personal mobile or tablet before doing this:

Checking your emails

It's useful for students to know that you will receive emails separately in both MS 365 and Canvas. Please check both regularly.
